YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Commences Work On New CD
April 12, 2002Swedish axe hero YNGWIE MALMSTEEN has commenced the recording process for his next album at his home studio in Miami, Florida with drummer Patrick Johansson, and keyboard player Derek Sherinian (ex-DREAM THEATER) for a summer release through Spitfire Records. No singer has yet been secured for the recording, although the guitarist has a few guys that he is currently talking to, according to an interview posted at www.knac.com. Musically, I don't know what to call it, really, I mean I'm not so sure. You see what happened was my last two albums, I don't know if it was a mistake or not, I'm not knocking them, I still think they were good albums, you know, but I have a certain view, a certain vision, of what I want to do, whereas this one is more, I just let it flow and so far, you know, its very difficult for me to explain it, its very melodic, very strong melodies, strong hooks, both riff and melody wise. And the production obviously I am paying an extreme lot of attention to that.
As in the past, MALMSTEEN is utilizing the services of engineer Tom Fletcher for the current sessions, and is planning on producing an album himself, just as he has on the last few releases. However, the guitarist's fans can expect a much stronger production than on 2000's War To End All Wars, which was universally panned for its inferior sound.
Most people have a very distorted idea of what a producer does, MALMSTEEN stated. A producer is someone that comes in and arranges songs and this and that. It really doesn't have much to do with the sound. The engineer is who is doing the sound. But the producer says Okay, I want more bass on this, or whatever, you know? So no, I will never use a producer per se, but trust me, the last thing you guys have to worry about is the sound, and that I will make sure of.
